Woods embarked on his professional journey in 1992, when he joined Exxon Company International as a planning analyst in Florham Park, New Jersey. Over the years, he took on diverse roles and assignments within ExxonMobil, including stints at ExxonMobil Chemical Company and ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Company, both domestically and internationally. These experiences allowed him to gain invaluable insights into various aspects of the company's operations and business functions.

In 2005, Woods assumed the position of vice president of ExxonMobil Chemical Company, based in Houston, Texas. In this role, he oversaw the management of global specialty chemical businesses, demonstrating his ability to navigate complex and evolving market dynamics. His exceptional performance led to his appointment as director of refining for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East at ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Company in 2008, where he was based in Brussels.

Woods's dedication and leadership qualities were recognized once again in 2010 when he was appointed vice president of supply and transportation, with his base in Fairfax, Virginia. This role further expanded his expertise in managing critical aspects of ExxonMobil's global operations, including supply chain logistics and distribution.

The culmination of Woods's exemplary career came in 2012, when he was appointed president of ExxonMobil Refining and Supply Company and vice president of Exxon Mobil Corporation. This promotion was a testament to his exceptional leadership skills and deep understanding of the industry.
