For more than two decades, Bogdan Dumitru has been a driving force behind one of the largest names in the antivirus software industry: Bitdefender. The company, which is headquartered in Bucharest, Romania, offers a range of products and services in the cybersecurity space. Its flagship product is Bitdefender Antivirus, which protects against viruses, spyware, malware, phishing attacks, ransomware, and other threats. As of May 2020, Bitdefender was ranked in the global top 10 among Microsoft Windows anti-malware application vendors.

Pursuing a passion for computer security, Dumitru joined Bitdefender in 2001. Since then, his contributions have been numerous. As Chief Technology Officer, he's spearheaded ground-breaking security products like Bitdefender BOX, which addresses the challenges of tomorrow’s hyperconnected world of IoT through a combination of hardware, software, and cloud services.

Additionally, Dumitru's accomplishments include: delivering 10 generations of award-winning security suites for Windows and several generations of OS X security products, and re-engineering the mobile products portfolio, with a successful market rollout of tens of millions of installs. On top of that, over the decades, he's co-authored several patents and built innovative technologies that now form the cornerstone of a product protecting more than 500 million users worldwide.

Today, Dumitru is responsible for coordinating a team of more than 400 talented researchers across four campuses in engineering, product development, research and development, antimalware labs, and user experience. Always looking towards the challenges of tomorrow's cybersecurity landscape, Dumitru's ongoing research focuses on developing Bitdefender’s event correlation system and behavioral technologies (active threat control) that identify and block emerging, unknown threats.

Before joining Bitdefender, Dumitru co-founded Ultrasoft in 1995. The startup was a security-orientated company with a mission to develop and market an advanced security solution for MS-DOS and Windows. It was there that Dumitru created his own antivirus solution called Sherlock Holmes AV, which was built around a code emulator, a precursor of modern sandboxing.

In addition to his current CTO role, Dumitru stays active as an advisor and angel investor in Romanian technology startups.

In 2000, he received a master's from the University of Bucharest. In 2020, he completed a doctorate in artificial intelligence from the same university. Moreover, since 2016, he has served as a lecturer in mathematics and computer science at his alma mater.
