Alumni Spotlight is pleased to announce The Top 100 Cornell Alumni in Technology of 2021. Stretching across a campus of thousands of acres, Cornell University has educated some of the brightest minds of today’s society in their 16 colleges and schools. The university was founded in 1865 with the goal of creating “an institution where any person can find instruction in any study,” and for this reason a wide variety of specialties are proven with this year’s awardees. From venture funds and software enterprises to companies specializing in ride sharing and video game development, awardees across all expertise are changing the world we live in today using new ideas and technologies.

Some of today’s household names like Bill Nye, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Harry Chapin and Anthony Fauci all started their mastery in the classrooms of Cornell. While Amol Deshpande will likely not ring a bell in most homes, he holds a heavy impact on 25,000+ farmers in households across 3 countries with the company he co-founded, Farmer’s Business Network. He is dedicated to helping family farmers maximize their profit potential with data and technology using a sustainable platform that redefines value and convenience. Hakan Bas is the Founder & CEO of Ace Games, first joining the company in 2020. Ace Games is a dedicated young team, gathered to make top-tier mobile games that are played by everyone around the world.

Previously, Bas was a senior analyst at Raymond James and before that an analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He has also previously founded or co-founded several other companies like Peak, SuperMassive Blaze, Lidyana.com, Bitlo.com. Bas earned an MBA from Yale University and an undergraduate degree in Economics from Cornell University.

 

2. Noah Kerner
Acorns

Noah Kerner is a Board Member and CEO of Acorns. Acorns is the first company to offer micro investing to the world by allowing customers to roundup spare change from everyday purchases to invest into a professionally managed portfolio of index funds. Their company enables consumers to control with all-in-one investment, retirement, checking, and more. Kerner has over 22 years in the financial services industry. He began his career in 1999.

Before joining Acorns, Kerner was a Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer at WeWork and before that a Co-Founder & CEO at Noise. Earlier in his career, he helped co-found OneLevel. Kerner graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Economics.

 

3. Sergio Furio
Creditas

Sergio Furio began his professional career over 21 years ago. Today, he is the Founder & CEO of Creditas. Creditas is a consumer loaning startup that operates a digital platform providing secured loans with low-interest rates. Currently they focus on home equity, auto equity, private payroll-deducted personal loans and vehicle financing.

Furio first got his start in 2000 as an Assistant Brand Marketer at Danone. From there, he went on to Deutsche Bank, before eventually rising to Principal at The Boston Consulting Group, his most recent position prior to joining Creditas. Furio graduated from Cornell University S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management with an MBA in Business.

 

4. John Zimmer
Lyft

John Zimmer is the Co-Founder & President of Lyft, first joining the company in 2012. Lyft is the fastest-growing on-demand transportation service in the U.S. It was founded to reconnect people and their communities through better transportation and currently serves in approximately 95 percent of the U.S. Lift is committed to effecting positive change for cities by offsetting carbon emissions from all rides and by promoting transportation equity through shared rides, bikeshare systems, electric scooters, and public transit partnerships.

Previously, Zimmer was a Co-Founder at Zimride and before that an Analyst at Lehman Brothers. Zimmer earned an undergraduate degree in Hotel Administration from Cornell University.

 

5. Doug Chertok
Vast Ventures

Doug Chertok is the Founder and General Partner of Vast Ventures. Vast Ventures is a manifesto-driven venture fund investing in disruptive companies with a global impact. They strive to improve worldwide health and happiness, promote resource sustainability for future generations and increase human potential, productivity, empathy and connectedness.

Chertok has over 17 years in the venture capital industry. He began his career in 2004. Chertok graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Finance and from New York University with a graduate degree.

 

6. Will Glaser
Grabango

Will Glaser began his professional career over 34 years ago. Today, he is the Founder & CEO of Grabango. Grabango is the leading provider of checkout-free technology for large-scale grocery and convenience store chains.

Glaser first got his start in 1987 as a Senior Systems Engineer at Amtel Video. From there, he went on to Hydra Systems, before eventually rising to Founder, CTO & COO at Pandora, his most recent position prior to joining Grabango. Glaser graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics.

 

7. Tien Tzuo
Zuora

Tien Tzuo is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zuora. He first joined the company in 2008. Zuora's mission is to power the world’s best companies to win in the subscription economy. They provide cloud-based software via subscription that enables any company in any industry to successfully launch, manage, and transform into a subscription business.

Previously, Tzuo was a Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at Salesforce, and before that, worked in marketing at CrossWorlds. Earlier in his career, he worked with Oracle Corporation as a Sales Consultant. Tzuo earned an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

 

8. Amol Deshpande
Farmer's Business Network, Inc.

Amol Deshpande is the CEO and Co-Founder of Farmer's Business Network, Inc. Farmer’s Business Network is an independent and unbiased, farmer-to-farmer agronomic information network. Their goal is to improve the livelihood of farmers by making data useful and accessible. Deshpande has over 16 years in the farming industry. He began his career in 2005.

Before joining Farmer's Business Network, Inc, Deshpande was a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Earlier in his career, he worked with Black River Asset Management as a Director. Deshpande graduated from Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management and from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with an undergraduate degree in Engineering.

 

9. David Greenberg
Updater

David Greenberg began his professional career over 15 years ago. Today, he is the CEO of Updater. Updater makes moving easier for American households by organizing all moving tasks in one place. With Updater, users can seamlessly forward mail, connect TV and internet, compare and book moving companies, transfer utilities, update accounts and records and much more.

Greenberg first got his start in 2006 as a Corporate Associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. From there, he went on to Director at DRS, his most recent position prior to joining Updater. Greenberg graduated from Cornell Law School with a JD and from the University of Pennsylvania with an undergraduate degree.

 

10. Nick Fajt
Rec Room

Nick Fajt is the CEO & Co-Founder of the Rec Room. He first joined the company in 2016. Rec Room offers a space to build and play games, allowing friends from all around the world to chat, hang out, explore millions of player-created rooms, or build something new and amazing to share with all. Rec Room is free and cross plays on everything from phones to VR headsets.

Previously, Fajt was a Principal Program Manager at Microsoft HoloLens. Fajt earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Cornell University.

 

11. Niraj Shah
Wayfair

Niraj Shah is the CEO and Co-Founder of Wayfair. Wayfair believes everyone should live in a home they love. Through technology and innovation, they make it possible for shoppers to quickly and easily find exactly what they want from a selection of more than 22 million items across home furnishings, décor, home improvement, housewares, and more. Shah has over 26 years in the retail industry. He began his career in 1995.

Before joining Wayfair, Shah was a COO at iXL and before that a CEO and Co-Founder at Spinners. Shah graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Engineering.

 

12. Isaac Oates
Justworks

Isaac Oates began his professional career over 25 years ago. Today, he is the Founder & CEO of Justworks. Justworks takes the busyness out of growing a business and alleviates the unknown. They have combined a simple platform and exceptional 24/7 customer service with the power of a PEO, so all teams have more time to focus on what matters.

Oates first got his start in 1996 as a web developer at Lucent Technologies. From there, he went on to NCSA, before eventually rising to VP of Special Projects at Etsy, his most recent position prior to joining Justworks. Oates graduated from Cornell University with an MBA in Operations & General Management and from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

13. Padmasree Warrior

Padmasree Warrior is the Founder, President, and CEO of Fable, first joining the company in 2019. Fable is the modern way to discover, read, and discuss great books together with friends. They are on a mission to deliver the world’s best social experience with exceptional stories in service of mental wellness.

Previously, Warrior was a CEO at NIO and before that a Strategic Advisor at CISCO. Earlier in her career, she worked with Motorola as a Chief Technology Officer and EVP. Warrior earned an MS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

 

14. Aatish Dedhia
Zycus

Aatish Dedhia is the Founder & CEO of Zycus, the pioneer in Cognitive Procurement software where they drive savings and ROI, synergize with finance, reduce risk and ensure compliance. For two decades Zycus has been a trusted partner of choice for large global enterprises. Dedhia has over 23 years in the software industry. He began his career in 1998.

Dedhia graduated from Cornell University with an MS in Electrical Engineering and from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India with an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.

 

15. Jessica Rolph
Lovevery

Jessica Rolph began her professional career over 15 years ago. Today, she is the Co-Founder and CEO of Lovevery. Lovevery's early learning platform for stage-based play helps parents everywhere feel confident they are giving their children the best resources they can.

Rolph first got her start in 2006 at RSF SocialFinance as an independent director, member of the audit committee, and compensation committee. Rolph graduated from Cornell University - Johnson Graduate School of Management with an MBA.

 

16. Ryan Morris
Turntide Technologies

Ryan Morris is the Chairman and CEO of Turntide Technologies. He first joined the company in 2017. Turntide Technologies develops breakthrough sustainability technologies that drive down energy consumption and operating costs in buildings, agriculture, and electric transport, boosting bottom lines and smoothing a global path to 100% clean energy

Previously, Morris was a Co-Founder and CEO of VideoNote LLC and before that a Director at Sevcon. Morris earned a masters of engineering and an undergraduate degree in engineering from Cornell University.

 

17. Rosen Sharma

Rosen Sharma is the CEO of Game.tv. Game.tv is empowering and creating communities. Powered by a powerful AI, it allows the community, clan, and guild leaders to host automated tournaments for PvP Action Games. Sharma has over 26 years in the software industry. He began his career in 1995.

Before joining Game.tv, Sharma was an SVP & CTO of Innovation at McAfee and before that a President & CEO at Solidcore Systems. Earlier in his career, he worked with VxTreme as a Co-Founder. Sharma graduated from Stanford University and Cornell University with Ph.D. in Computer Science and from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

18. Arjun Rao
ValueLabs

Arjun Rao began his professional career over 31 years ago. Today, he is the Founder and CEO of ValueLabs. ValueLabs technology provides end-to-end solutions in fields of customer experience, data and analytics, product development and automation. For the past 23 years they have expanded to 31 locations worldwide.

Rao first got his start in 1990 as a GM, Sales & Marketing at his family business. Rao graduated from Cornell University with an MS in Engineering and from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.

 

19. Brian Schimpf
Anduril Industries

Brian Schimpf is the Co-Founder and CEO of Anduril Industries, first joining the company in 2017. Anduril builds cutting-edge hardware and software products that solve complex national security challenges for America and its allies. They are currently in a rapid growth phase, deploying technology in diverse locations and developing path-making products that will change defense forever.

Previously, Schimpf was a Director of Engineering at Palantir Technologies. Schimpf earned an undergraduate degree in Operation Research from Cornell University.

 

20. Justin McCarty

Justin McCarty is the COO & Co-Founder of Bungalow Living. Bungalow is the largest and fastest growing co-living company in the U.S., providing beautiful homes, experiences, and roommates for early career professionals. They create space and connections in communities so people can live richer lives together. McCarty has over 11 years in the real estate industry. He began his career in 2010.

Before joining Bungalow Living, McCarty was an SF General Manager at Sprig and before that a Manager of Analytics & Strategy at Uber Technologies. Earlier in his career, he worked with Bank of America Merrill Lynch as an Associate of Structured Finance. McCarty graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Economics and Management.

Sanish Mondkar began his professional career over 23 years ago. Today, he is the Founder & CEO of Legion Technologies. Mondkar first got his start in 1998 as a senior member of the technical staff at Verizon. From there, he went on to Ariba Inc., before eventually rising to Executive Vice President & Chief Product Officer at SAP, his most recent position prior to joining Legion Technologies. Mondkar graduated from Cornell University with a master's in Computer Science and from Pune University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

22. Francis Pedraza
Invisible Technologies, Inc.

Francis Pedraza is the CEO of Invisible Technologies, Inc. He first joined the company in 2015. Invisible Technologies Inc. is helping companies scale criteria-based decision-making by automating custom business processes.

Previously, Pedraza was a CEO at Everest. Pedraza earned an undergraduate degree in History and Government from Cornell University.

 

23. Alex Bangash

Bangash graduated from The Wharton School with an MBA and from Cornell University with an M.Eng in Operations, Research & Industrial Engineering and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Economics.

 

24. Raunak Nirmal

Raunak Nirmal began his professional career over 7 years ago. Today, he is the Founder and CEO of Acquco. Acquco is an institutionally-backed acquisition company, focused on FBA third-party sellers on Amazon.

Nirmal first got his start in 2014 as a Business Analyst for Marketplace at Amazon. From there, he went on to AMZLeap, before eventually rising to Founder and CEO at RefundLabs, his most recent position prior to joining Acquco. Nirmal graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Operations Research and Engineering.

 

25. Lisa Skeete Tatum

Lisa Skeete Tatum is the Founder and CEO of Landit. She first joined the company in 2015. Landit is the leader in personalized career pathing to increase the success and engagement of women and diverse groups in the workplace.

Previously, Tatum was a General Partner at Cardinal Partners and before that a Founder and President at STI Inc. Earlier in her career she worked with Procter & Gamble as a Purchasing Manager. Tatum earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University.

 

26. Joe Lemay

Joe Lemay is the CEO and Co-Founder of Rocketbook. Rocketbook creates reusable, cloud-connected note-taking products from the future. Lemay has over 22 years in the software industry. He began his career in 1999.

Before joining Rocketbook, Lemay was a Strategic Account Executive at Salesforce and before that an Account Executive at SAVO Group. Earlier in his career, he worked with Hey, Inc. as a Software Engineer and Technical Lead. Lemay graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Sloan School of Management with an MBA and from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

27. Ted Serbinski
The Fund

Ted Serbinski began his professional career over 17 years ago. Today, he is the General Partner of The Fund. The Fund is a community of founders & operators who care deeply about the next generation of local entrepreneurs by investing in mission-driven, technology-enabled companies at the earliest stages.

Serbinski first got his start in 2004 as a Senior Web Application Engineer at Washington Square Associates. From there, he went on to take roles with several companies like Techstars, A+E Networks, Drupal Association, ParentsClick Network and Lullabot. He is also actively involved in Stanson Ventures where he is a Managing Parker and Founder. Serbinski graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering.

 

28. Maxim Lobovsky

Maxim Lobovsky is the Co-Founder and CEO of Formlabs, first joining the company in 2011. Formlabs is establishing the industry benchmark in professional 3D printing for professionals in a variety of industries. They also develop high-performance materials as well as best in class 3D printing software.

Lobovsky earned an MS in Media Arts and Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an undergraduate degree in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University.

 

29. Mark Fasciano
Rover Diagnostics

Mark Fasciano is the Co-Founder and CEO of Rover Diagnostics. Rover Diagnostics’ primary mission is to meet the urgent global need for a cost-effective, highly sensitive, and mass-produced point-of-care PCR test for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Fasciano has over 25 years in the biotechnology industry. He began his career in 1996.

Before joining Rover Diagnostics, Fasciano was a director at Military AutoSource and before that a Co-Founder and CEO at Clarapath. Earlier in his career, he worked with FatWire Software as Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO. Fasciano graduated from the University of Chicago with a Ph.D. in Computer Science and from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and English.

 

30. Timothy Chi
The Knot Worldwide

Timothy Chi began his professional career over 23 years ago. Today, he is the Chief Executive Officer of The Knot Worldwide. The Knot Worldwide’s leading global family of brands inspire, inform and celebrate our communities as they move through life’s biggest milestones. The Knot Worldwide helps couples plan every aspect of their weddings and more through The Knot, WeddingWire, Bodas.net, WeddingWire.in, WeddingWire.co.uk, WeddingWire.ca, Matrimonio.com, Mariages.net and other brands.

Chi first got his start in 1998 as Co-Founder and Senior Director of Technology at Blackboard Inc. From there, he went on to Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at WeddingWire, his most recent position prior to joining The Knot Worldwide. Chi graduated from Tufts University with an MS in Engineering Management and from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Operational Research and Industrial Engineering.

 

31. Peter Wang
Anaconda, Inc.

Peter Wang is the Chief Executive Officer of Anaconda, Inc. He first joined the company in 2012 as CTO and Co-Founder. Anaconda is the world’s most popular and trusted Python/R platform for data science, machine learning, and AI. Their enterprise-grade solutions enable corporate, research, and academic institutions around the world to harness the power of open source for competitive advantage, groundbreaking research, and a better world.

Previously, Wang was a CTO and Co-Founder at Continuum Analytics and before that a Founder at Streamitive, LLC. Earlier in his career, he worked with Immersive Technologies, LLC as a software developer. Wang earned an undergraduate degree in Physics from Cornell University.

 

32. Richard Craib
Numerai

Richard Craib is the Founder of Numerai. Numerai is a global artificial intelligence tournament to solve the stock market. Consumers can download data, build a model, and upload their predictions. Because they encrypt their datasets with structure-preserving encryption techniques, they are able to give away all of their data for free. This turns the stock market into a data science problem so users do not need to know anything about finance to participate.

Craib has over 6 years in the financial services industry. He began his career in 2015. Craib graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Mathematics.

 

33. Tianyi (TJ) Jiang
AvePoint

Tianyi (TJ) Jiang began his professional career over 24 years ago. Today, he is the CEO & Co-founder of AvePoint. AvePoint’s data management solutions help their diverse, global customer base overcome complex transformation, governance, and compliance challenges in the Microsoft Cloud.

Jiang first got his start in 1997 as a member of the technical staff at Lucent Technologies. From there, he went on to Deutsche Bank, before eventually rising to Senior Software Developer at Citadel Investment Group, his most recent position prior to joining AvePoint. Jiang graduated from NYU Stern School of Business with a masters in philosophy and Ph.D. and from Cornell University with a masters of engineering and with an undergraduate degree in ECE.

 

34. Gabriel Otte
Healthcare Co-op

Gabriel Otte is a Partner of Healthcare Co-op. He first joined the company in 2019. Healthcare Co-op is a small group of healthcare technology leaders driven to fix a broken healthcare system by advising and investing in founders starting impactful companies at the earliest stage.

Previously, Otte was a CEO and Co-Founder at Freenome and before that an engineer at Glyde Corporation. Earlier in his career, he worked with OSXplanet Project as a Founder. Otte earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Chemical Biology from Cornell University.

 

35. Andrew Grauer
Course Hero

Andrew Grauer is the CEO and Co-Founder of Course Hero, an online learning platform providing course-specific study resources contributed by a community of students and educators. They provide practice problems, study guides, videos, class notes, and step-by-step explanations for every subject by working closely with educators to help support student learning. Grauer has over 9 years in the education technology industry. He began his career in 2012.

Before joining Course Hero, Grauer was a President at Cardinal Scholars. Grauer graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Spanish.

 

36. Malinka Walaliyadde
AKASA

Malinka Walaliyadde began his professional career over 12 years ago. Today, he is the Co-Founder and CEO of AKASA. AKASA is the only unified automation company built specifically for healthcare revenue cycle management.

Walaliyadde first got his start in 2009 as a Co-Founder & President at ECaFT. From there, he went on to Counsyl, before eventually rising to Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, his most recent position prior to joining AKASA. Walaliyadde graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Material Engineering.

 

37. Jody Shapiro
Productiv

Jody Shapiro is the Founder and CEO of Productiv. He first joined the company in 2018. Productiv is changing how IT teams manage SaaS applications with real-time engagement insights that enable application rightsizing and productivity gains.

Previously, Shapiro was a Founder and CEO at GrowthDynamix and before that Global Head at Google Analytics Premium. Earlier in his career, he worked with PictureTel as a Software Engineer. Shapiro earned an MBA from The Wharton School, an MS from Cornell University and an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

 

38. Euwyn Poon
Spin

Euwyn Poon is the Co-Founder of Spin. Spin provides dockless electric scooters in more than 60 markets in the US, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Charlotte, and Miami. Poon has over 14 years in the software industry. He began his career in 2007.

Before joining Spin, Poon was the founder of Opzi and before that an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP. Poon graduated from Cornell Law School with a JD and from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

39. Ryan Hudson
Honey

Ryan Hudson began his professional career over 19 years ago. Today, he is the Co-Founder of Honey. Honey provides a simple way to save while shopping online. While users are checking out at any store, Honey automatically tries every coupon code to find the best deal.

Hudson first got his start in 2002 as an analyst at Forrester Research. From there, he went on to innoPad, before eventually rising to Product Manager at OpenX, his most recent position prior to joining Honey. Hudson graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Sloan School of Management with an MBA and from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in Operations Research and Computer Science.

 

40. Mada Seghete
Branch

Mada Seghete is the Co-Founder, Managing Director, and VP of Marketing and Market Development of Branch. She first joined the company in 2014 as Co-Founder and Head of Marketing. Branch’s mobile marketing and deep linking solutions are trusted to deliver seamless experiences that increase ROI, decrease wasted spend, and eliminate siloed attribution.

Previously, Seghete was a Co-Founder at Kindred Prints and before that a Director of Business Development and Product at Yola.com. Earlier in her career, she worked with Borg Warner Automotive as a software engineer. Seghete earned an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Stanford University Graduate School of Business, an MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University and an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University.

 

41. Saurav Kumar
Euler Motors

Saurav Kumar is the Founder and CEO of Euler Motors. Euler is focused on sustainable last-mile transport through light electric commercial vehicles. Kumar has over 10 years in the automotive industry. He began his career in 2011.

Before joining Euler Motors, Kumar was a Co-Founder and CEO at Cube26 (Acquired by Paytm) and before that a tech at Yahoo!. Earlier in his career he worked with MOAT as a software developer. Kumar graduated from Cornell University with a masters in Engineering and in Computer Science and from Delhi College of Engineering with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.
