Alumni Spotlight is pleased to announce the Top 100 Stanford Graduate School of Business Alumni in Finance & Investing. Considered one of the most prestigious business schools in the world, Stanford GSB was founded in 1925 and boasts notable alumni including Phil Knight, Charles Schwab, Penny Pritzker, Mary Barra, and Jeffrey Skoll, among many others. It is highly selective admitting only 6% of those who apply and to each applicant, the university poses the question, “What Matters Most to You, and Why?” While graduates go on to pursue ambitions across a wide range of domains, many select the fields of finance and investing.

Across top firms such as BlackRock, Lazard, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, PIMCO, TPG, General Atlantic, and many others, Stanford GSB alumni demonstrate a commitment to bold leadership while keeping a keen eye toward creating a brighter future through innovation, diversity, and collaboration. Awardees were selected for the breadth of their accomplishments in areas such as asset management, private equity, investment banking, venture capital, and other areas. They were nominated and evaluated based on sustained career performance and milestones achieved, demonstrated leadership, and reputational standing in the industry and broader business community, among other factors. Notably, many awardees also sit on the boards of charitable organizations and foundations, offering their skills for the betterment of their communities.

1. Peter Chung

Title: Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer

A Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at global growth equity firm Summit Partners, Peter Chung leads Summit’s investments in a wide array of enterprises in the technology sector. Chung currently acts as a director of companies including A10 Networks, Empower RF Systems, MACOM, and Syndigo. Prior to joining Summit in 1994, Chung worked as an analyst in Goldman Sachs’ mergers and acquisitions division. In addition to being a multiple-time honoree of the Forbes Midas List of top investors, Chung serves as a director of the National Capital Venture Association and the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army’s Golden State Division. Chung received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Harvard University.

 

2. David Golub
Company: Golub Capital
Title: President

David Golub is the President of Golub Capital, a market-leading, award-winning direct lender and credit asset manager. The firm has over $35 billion of capital under management and offers tailored solutions for investors’ credit asset strategies. Golub was previously managing director of Centre Partners and Corporate Partners. He is a member of the board of the Loan Syndications and Trading Association, the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council, and the Founder’s Council of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, where he was the first board chairman and also a long-time director. Golub received his Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Harvard University.

 

3. Orlando Bravo
Company: Thoma Bravo
Title: Managing Partner

As Founder and Managing Partner of private equity firm Thoma Bravo, Orlando Bravo has pioneered a number of investment and acquisition strategies in the technology sector. Recognized in 2019 as the best-performing buyout investor by HEC Paris and Dow Jones, Bravo famously sold or listed dozens of established software companies for many times their cost. An avid humanitarian, Bravo’s creation of the Bravo Family Foundation and its Rising Entrepreneurs Program has brought millions to efforts for hurricane relief and entrepreneurship development. Bravo received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science from Brown University.

 

6. Dipanjan Deb
Company: Francisco Partners
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Dipanjan Deb has worked with Francisco Partners since co-founding the San Francisco-based investment firm in 1999 and currently serves as Chief Executive Officer. Among Deb’s successful enterprises with Francisco Partners are his current positions on the boards of GoodRx, LegalZoom, and Quest. Before co-founding the firm, Deb was a principal at Texas Pacific Group and vice president at Robertson, Stephens & Company. He has held several advisory positions for the Stanford Graduate School of Business, including chairmanship of the Stanford GSB Management Board and the Stanford Board of Trustees. Deb received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.

 

7. Scott Richland
Company: The California Institute of Technology
Title: Chief Investment Officer

Scott Richland is the Chief Investment Officer at The California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He works closely with the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees and the Institute’s Investment Office to manage Caltech’s security holdings and investment properties. Richland is an accomplished financial services and investment management executive with vast experience in leading business acquisitions and managing institutional and ultra-high-net-worth client portfolios. Prior to joining Caltech, Richland was president at both Lunada Bay Investors, LLC and Andell Holdings, LLC. He also served on the board of directors for the AIG Life and Retirement Companies for six years and as a board member for United Educators Insurance. Richland received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and government from the University of California, Los Angeles.

 

8. Will Griffith
Company: ICONIQ Growth
Title: Founding Partner

Will Griffith is a Founding Partner at ICONIQ Growth, a direct investment firm with $9 billion in capital commitments and investments in over 70 high-growth technology companies. He is a founder of ICONIQ Strategic Partners, which is ICONIQ’s growth equity investing platform. This platform is focused on partnering with exceptional founders and leaders to effect global change. Griffith is passionate about partnering with product- and customer-first entrepreneurs and helping them to achieve their vision. Before he joined ICONIQ, Griffith worked at Technology Crossover Ventures as a general partner. Prior to that, he was at Morgan Stanley and The Beacon Group. Griffith received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and engineering from Dartmouth College.

 

11. Jessica Reed Saouaf
Company: Hall Capital Partners LLC
Title: Co-Chief Investment Officer, Managing Director

Having joined Hall Capital Partners LLC in 1999, Jessica Reed Saouaf now holds the positions of Co-Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of the investment firm. As a member of Hall Capital’s management, executive, and investment review committees, Reed Saouaf has focused on investments in private equity buyout growth and distressed public and private investments. In addition to her duties with Hall Capital, Reed Saouaf is active on the boards of the Stanford Business School Trust, the San Francisco Foundation, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California. Reed Saouaf received her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and psychology from Wellesley College.

 

15. Kristi Mitchem
Company: BMO Financial Group
Title: Chief Executive Officer, BMO Global Asset Management

Kristi Mitchem works in BMO Financial’s Global Asset Management group, serving as Chief Executive Officer and Head of that division. Under her leadership of a team of more than 1,200, BMO Global Asset Management is recognized as a global leader in ESG investment, corporate engagement, and international multi-asset investments. Before she joined BMO in 2019, Mitchem worked as CEO and head of global asset management at Wells Fargo and held executive positions with State Street Global Advisors, BlackRock, and Barclays Global Investors. A passionate advocate for diversity, she was also a driving force in bringing to market a gender diversity index exchange-traded fund in her time at State Street. Mitchem received her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Davidson College.

 

18. Scott Stuart
Company: Sageview Capital
Title: Founding Partner

Scott Stuart is a Founding Partner at Sageview Capital. In his position, he is responsible for all aspects of the company’s business and he also sits on the firm’s Investment Committee as well as the Portfolio Committee. Before he co-founded Sageview Capital, Stuart was employed at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR), where he became a partner in 1994. While there, he was responsible for the utilities and consumer products industry groups. His previous experience also includes working at Lehman Brothers Kuhn Loeb, Inc. in the mergers and acquisitions group. Stuart received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Dartmouth College.

20. Vadim Zlotnikov
Company: Fidelity Investments
Title: President

Vadim Zlotnikov is the President of Fidelity Institutional Asset Management at Fidelity Investments. He has worked in financial services for almost 30 years, mostly with institutional clients solving complex investment and organizational problems. Zlotnikov has served as an analyst, strategist, PM, and business leader, and in his current role, he oversees the firm’s institutional asset management organization. Before Fidelity, he was with AllianceBernstein for ten years, where he was chief market strategist and co-head of multi-asset solutions. Zlotnikov received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

27. Richard Van Horne
Company: Glencoe Asset Management, LLC
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Richard Van Horne is the Chief Executive Officer of Glencoe Asset Management, LLC. Prior to joining Glencoe, Van Horne was the regional manager of Princeton in Asia, a global institution that has worked to foster deeper Asian-American relations through diplomacy and service. Before this position, he had a 30-year career in international banking, including positions with Diversified Hedge Investment Advisors, LLC and Croesus Capital Management. Van Horne received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Princeton University.

 

28. Dave Welling
Company: Mercer Advisors
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Dave Welling has served as Chief Executive Officer at Denver-based Mercer Advisors since 2017, bringing more than 25 years of experience in the world of wealth management to Mercer’s mission of offering ambitious fiduciary services to its clients. Among his specialties as an executive in the world of finance are executing corporate strategy and delivering consistent, technology-facilitated client service. Welling has also worked as general manager at SS&C Advent and Black Diamond Performance Reporting and held three vice president positions at Charles Schwab during his twelve-year tenure. Welling received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Middlebury College.

 

29. Patricia Kemp
Company: Oak HC/FT
Title: Co-Founder and Managing Partner

Patricia Kemp is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Oak HC/FT and focuses on growth equity and early-stage venture opportunities in fintech. She currently serves on the boards of Duedil, FastPay, Feedzai, Insureon, Kasisto, NextCapital, and Urjanet. Kemp is also a board observer at Poynt and is actively involved with CLARA Analytics, Kryon, Ocrolus, and Pagaya. Before joining Oak HC/FC, Kemp served as a venture partner at Oak Investment Partners and spent 13 years at Cendant. She also previously held positions at Hewlett Packard and Merrill Lynch. An award-winning leader in finance, she has been named to Institutional Investor’s FinTech Finance 40 list and PaymentSource’s Most Influential Women in Payments list. Kemp received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University.

 

33. Edwin Jager
Company: The D. E. Shaw Group
Title: Managing Director and Head of Fundamental Equities

As Managing Director and Global Head of Fundamental Equities for global technology development and global investment firm The D. E. Shaw Group, Edwin Jager has spearheaded investment initiatives in a variety of infrastructure and metals companies. In addition to his other duties in his position, Jager was a rotating member of the D. E. Shaw Risk Committee. Before joining the firm in 2011, Jager worked as the head of technology equities for Perry Capital, and for Morgan Stanley as a senior analyst in technology corporate finance and M&A. Jager received his dual Bachelor of Arts degree in ethics, politics, and economics and political science from Yale University.

 

35. David Benson
Company: Fannie Mae
Title: President

David Benson is President of Fannie Mae. He is responsible for leading the development and execution of the strategic plan as well as driving innovation and organizational performance. Benson leads the Single-Family and Multifamily businesses, including aspects such as customer engagement, capital markets, and pricing, among others. He serves on the board of managers of Common Securitization Solutions, which is a Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac joint venture. Previously, Benson was a managing director in the fixed-income division of Merrill Lynch, where he held various leadership positions. Benson received his Bachelor of Science degree in psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

 

37. Eric Bergeson
Company: Wasatch Global Investors
Title: President

Eric Bergeson has been with Wasatch Global Investors in various capacities for more than two decades, becoming President of the Salt Lake investment firm in 2016. In his current post, Bergeson has successfully transitioned Wasatch Advisors to the more global-oriented Wasatch Global Investors, preserving the firm’s small-cap investment roots while carrying the company into the global marketplace. In 1995, Bergeson transitioned from his role as a professional football player—playing with the New England Patriots, Houston Oilers, and Atlanta Falcons—to the world of finance, serving for ten years on the board of directors of Financiere de l’Echiquier in Paris. Bergeson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Brigham Young University.

 

41. Anne Martin
Company: Wesleyan University
Title: Chief Investment Officer

Anne Martin has served as Wesleyan University’s Chief Investment Officer since 2010. As CIO, Martin is in charge of managing the university’s endowment, building a staff, and approaching the project as a start-up. Emphasizing transparency and integrity in her diverse tasks such as manager selection and asset allocation, Martin has overseen a doubling of the Wesleyan endowment to $1 billion. Prior to taking on her current position at the university, Martin worked as director of the Yale Investments Office, and before that she worked in the tech industry, serving as managing director of the Alex. Brown technology practice. Martin received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College.

 

50. Joanna Munro
Company: HSBC Global Asset Management
Title: Global Chief Investment Officer

Joanna Munro has occupied an executive position as Global Chief Investment Officer at HSBC Global Asset Management in London since 2019. She has worked for HSBC for sixteen years, holding positions such as the global head of stewardship and CEO of the firm’s Asia Pacific region. Munro is also a founding member of the Diversity Project, helping launch the Early Careers Workstream, and was the non-Executive Director of the UK’s Investment Association. In 2019 Financial News named Munro one of the 100 most influential women in finance. Munro received her Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and engineering from Queens College, Cambridge.

 

51. Lisa Westley
Company: Advent International
Title: Managing Director and Head of Strategy

Lisa Westley is a Managing Director and Head of Strategy at Advent International. She is experienced in fundraising and operations and has developed a wealth of experience in business development, fundraising, alternative asset new business launches, talent management, valuation, and corporate finance. She joined Advent in 2019, prior to which she was a partner and chief operating officer of Brooklands Capital Strategies, a spin-out of TPG Capital. She spent 13 at TPG and was a founding partner at Thomas Weisel Partners. Westley received her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and Asian studies from Amherst College.

 

55. Nancy Ford
Company: KKR
Title: Managing Director

Nancy Ford is a Managing Director in Private Equity at KKR. She joined the firm in 2017, starting in the Consumer Retail Group. She currently sits on the boards of Upfield, Nature’s Bounty, Channel Control Merchants, Gibson Brands, Heartland Dental, Coty Inc., and Wella Company. Before joining KKR, Ford was a managing director at Friedman Fleischer & Lowe LLC, where she mainly focused on consumer products and was involved in many of the firm’s investments. She was also previously an analyst at both Thomas H. Lee Partners and Goldman Sachs. Ford received her Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Duke University.

 

57. Don Cornwell
Company: PJT Partners
Title: Partner

Specializing in the fields of media and entertainment, Don Cornwell has been a Partner at global advisory and investment firm PJT Partners for the last six years. In addition to brokering massive sports and entertainment deals in the industry, Cornwell is a member of Stanford’s LEAD Council and has held a seat on the Stanford Graduate School of Business Management Board since 2018. Before joining PJT, Cornwell held the position of managing director at Morgan Stanley for more than 15 years and was a senior financial analyst for the NFL. Cornwell received his Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Harvard University.

 

60. Farah Khan
Company: L Catterton
Title: Partner

Working as a Partner at venture capital and private equity firm L Catterton in Connecticut, Farah Khan works on issues of global consumer growth investing, sitting on the boards of companies including Petlove and Grupo MYT. Before joining L Catterton, Khan served as vice president of Sandler Capital Management with an emphasis on growth equity and leveraged buyouts, and as a financial analyst with Goldman Sachs. Khan currently sits on the investment committee of Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and volunteers with the board of trafficking rehabilitation nonprofit Made By Survivors. Khan received her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and mathematics from Mount Holyoke College.

 

61. Elizabeth Hogbin
Company: T. Rowe Price
Title: Head of Equity Product Management

Elizabeth Hogbin is Head of Equity Product Management at T. Rowe Price. She specializes in advising senior clients on business strategy as well as product development and marketing based on the customer’s insight. In her current role at T. Rowe Price, Hogbin leads the global equity product management function and works with other departments to grow the company’s global equity business. Before joining T. Rowe Price, she was an investment director with Wellington Management and a principal at Bain & Company. Before that, she was director of retail business strategy at Lloyds Banking Group. Hogbin received her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Harvard University.

 

65. Hadley Mullin
Company: TSG Consumer Partners
Title: Senior Managing Director, Partner

As a Senior Managing Director and Senior Partner with TSG Consumer Partners, Hadley Mullin leads the strategy and management of the firm while sourcing new investment opportunities. In addition to sitting on TSG’s investment committee, Mullin serves on the boards of the Branson School and the Women’s Board of the California Pacific Medical Center. Before TSG, Mullin was with Bain & Company where she focused on consumer products, retail, and healthcare. Mullin has remained active in issues related to finance and investment at her alma maters, serving on Dartmouth’s Presidential Commission on Financial Aid and Investment Committee, and the Stanford Business School Trust. Mullin received her Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Dartmouth College.

 

69. Elisabetta Frontini
Company: Permira
Title: Operating Partner

Elisabetta Frontini is the Operating Partner and Global Head of Permira’s portfolio team. In her current position, she is focused on the consumer sector of portfolio opportunities. She also serves on the portfolio review committee. Some of the notable transactions she has worked on include Acraplanet, La Piadineria, and Universidad Europea, among others. Before she joined Permira, Frontini was head of business development at Ferrero Group as well as a partner at McKinsey & Company. She currently serves as a non-executive board member for Agrifarma, S.p.A., Gruppo La Piadineria, and Universidad Europea. Frontini received her undergraduate degree in economics from Bocconi University.

 

75. Katherine August-de Wilde
Company: First Republic Bank
Title: Vice Chair and Board Member

An executive with First Republic Bank for more than thirty years, Katherine August-deWilde now holds the position of Vice Chair and Board Member at the financial institution. Previous to her current post, August-deWilde was president and COO of First Republic, earning numerous honors including being named one of the San Francisco Business Times’ 100 Most Influential Women in Business. A noted philanthropist, August-deWilde served for six years on the advisory council of the Stanford Graduate School of Business as well as the nonprofit board of Tipping Point Communities and the private board of OpenGov. August-deWilde received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Goucher College.

 

80. Tom Barnds
Company: Accel-KKR
Title: Managing Partner

In his twenty years as Managing Partner with the firm, Tom Barnds has driven technology investment giant Accel-KKR to acquire or invest in more than 250 tech companies. Before his experience at Accel, Barnds worked as a managing director at Nassau Capital and was part of medical supply provider McGaw Inc.’s new business development division. Additionally, Barnds has served on the leadership council of the Positive Coaching Alliance for the past seven years and has delivered lectures on the subject of private equity at Princeton and Stanford. Barnds received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Princeton University.

 

86. Roelof Botha
Company: Sequoia Capital
Title: Partner

Roelof Botha is a Partner at Sequoia Capital. He works with entrepreneurs in the early stages of their business development with the goal of helping them reach their ambitions. Botha is drawn toward business models that are built on the principles of transparency and responsiveness. In his current role at Sequoia, he works with companies such as Square, YouTube, and Instagram. He has been with Sequoia since 2003 and is currently a board member of 23andMe and MongoDB, as well as a member of the board of directors for Square, Inc., Unity Technologies, and Natera. Botha received his Bachelor of Business Science degree in actuarial science, economics, and statistics from the University of Cape Town.

 

88. Frank Witt
Company: PIMCO
Title: Managing Director

Frank Witt is the Managing Director in PIMCO’s Munich office. He is the head of PIMCO’s business in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, and the Nordics. As a leading global investment management firm, PIMCO has 13 offices in 12 countries, spanning North America, Europe, and Asia. The company focuses on providing attractive returns while maintaining risk management. Before joining PIMCO, Witt was an investment banker with Goldman Sachs as well as a risk manager with Deutsche Bank, compiling 25 years of investment experience. Witt holds an additional master’s degree in economics from the University of Bonn, Germany.

 

93. Ryo Fujii
Company: Permira
Title: Partner, Head of Japan

Ryo Fujii is a Partner and Head of the Japan office at Permira. In his current role, he has been involved in many transactions, including Akindo Sushiro and John Masters Organics. Fujii is responsible for originating, executing, and monitoring private equity investments in the Japan office. Before joining Permira, he was director of private equity and a member of the Board of Capital Markets at KKR. He was also vice president of the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs. Fujii has served on several boards, including Sushiro Global Holdings Ltd. and PHC Holdings Corporation. He is currently a member of the board of John Masters Organics Group Inc. Fujii received a Bachelor of Laws degree in public law from The University of Tokyo.

 

95. Samantha Greenberg
Company: Ashler Capital
Title: Portfolio Manager, Technology, Media & Telecom

Samantha Greenberg is a Portfolio Manager of Technology, Media & Telecom investing at Ashler Capital, a Citadel company. Greenberg has 20 years of investment experience, including areas such as technology, internet/media, and consumer industries. Greenberg was named as one of the Hedge Fund Journal/Ernst & Young’s 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds. Before joining Ashler Capital, she was a managing partner and chief investment officer at Margate Capital Management, LP as well as a partner of the investment team at Paulson & Co. Greenberg received her Bachelor of Science degree in economics with a dual major in finance and strategic management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

98. Brooks Preston
Company: Macquarie Group
Title: Managing Director

Brooks Preston is a Managing Director at Macquarie Asset Management with a focus on sustainability strategy and growth equity, including driving Macquarie’s commitment to become the first large asset manager to commit to global net zero by 2040. Before joining Macquarie, Preston was Head of Investment Funds at the Development Finance Corporation of the United States, with a $3.5 billion portfolio of emerging market investments. Brooks was a managing partner at Virgin Green Fund – Emerging Markets and a Principal at Wolfensohn & Company. Preston’s experience includes operating roles in BP plc and appointments in the US Senate and the Clinton Administration covering environmental and natural resource policy.

 

100. Dirk McDermott
Company: Altira Group
Title: Managing Partner

Dirk McDermott is a Managing Partner at Altira Group. His career, spanning 30 years, has seen an array of experiences in operating, investing, and board governance. He has participated in more than 100 financings and served on more than 30 boards, and his current and previous portfolio company directorships include Infrastructure Networks, FlexGen Power Systems, ResFrac, and others. McDermott’s background includes being a co-founder of Aspect Management, where he managed the oil and gas portfolio of General Atlantic Partners, including General Atlantic Resources, Sanderford Offshore, and Brigham Oil & Gas. He was also previously a chief geophysicist at the Louisiana Land and Exploration Company.
