Alumni Spotlight is pleased to announce The Top 100 Wharton School Alumni in Finance & Investing. After many decades of producing some of the most promising business graduates, the name Wharton has become synonymous with top tier business education. The school was founded in 1881 at the University of Pennsylvania through a donation made by Joseph Wharton, an American industrialist who rose to prominence in the mid-1800s and is also well-known for co-founding Bethlehem Steel. The Wharton School has over 99,000 alumni across the globe. Many famous business icons have attended the school including Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, and Anil Ambani, among others.

The alumni awardees were selected for the breadth of their accomplishments in areas such as asset management, private equity, investment banking, venture capital, and other financial areas. They were nominated and evaluated based on sustained career performance and milestones achieved, demonstrated leadership, and reputational standing in the industry and broader business community. These accomplished individuals represent some of the most prominent financial organizations including, but not limited to, Goldman Sachs, Fidelity, Lazard, KKR, Bridgewater, TPG, and JP Morgan Chase.

1. Alexander Stern

Alexander Stern is the President of Lazard Group, a global financial advisory and asset management firm. Founded in 1848, Lazard is the world’s largest independent investment bank, with primary offices in New York City, London, and Paris. Stern has served the conglomerate as President since 2019, after several years as chief executive officer of Lazard Financial Advisory. He joined the firm in 1994 after working for Patricof & Co. Ventures and IBM. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University, as well as a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

 

2. David Mussafer
Company: Advent International
Title: Chairman & Managing Partner

David Mussafer is the Chairman and a Managing Partner at Advent International. Founded in 1984, Advent International is one of the largest and most experienced global private equity firms, focused on buyouts and growth equity investments in five core sectors. Mussafer joined Advent in 1990 and has spent over 30 years at the company. As part of his role at Advent, he's currently the Co-Chairman of the Advent International Global Executive Committee and Lead Director of lululemon. Mussafer’s current board memberships span Aimbridge/Interstate, First Watch, lululemon, Olaplex, Serta Simmons Bedding, and Thrasio. Mussafer received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Tulane University.

 

3. Walter White
Company: Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America
Title: President and Chief Executive Officer

Walter White is the President and Chief Executive Officer for Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, a provider of annuities and life insurance based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Allianz Life is a principal subsidiary of Allianz SE, and is highly rated by financial rating agencies AM Best, Moody’s, and Standard & Poor’s. As the top executive of Allianz, White is a strong supporter of diversity and inclusion, and has been recognized for his work supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Previously, he was president of Woodbury Financial Services, and a senior vice president with Fortis Financial Group, acquired by Hartford Life. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University.

 

4. David Hunt
Company: PGIM
Title: President and Chief Executive Officer

David Hunt is the President and Chief Executive Officer of PGIM, the asset management branch of Prudential Financial. Representing retail investors and institutional clients, PGIM manages over $1 trillion in fixed income, equity, real estate, alternative assets, and more. Hunt has been CEO since 2011, overseeing the firm’s overall investment strategies, while also serving on the U.S. Management Council for Prudential Financial. Previously, he spent over 20 years with McKinsey & Company, ultimately as a senior partner and co-head of the North American asset management practice. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Yale University.

 

5. Ida Liu

Title: Chief Executive Officer, Citi Private Bank North America

Ida Liu is the Head of Citi Private Bank North America and a member of the Private Bank Global Leadership Team at Citi. She joined in 2007 as head of the Citi Private Bank Fashion, Media & Entertainment Group. Liu leads private banking activities in 25 offices across the United States and Canada and she and her team are focused on deepening and acquiring new client relationships and delivering firm-wide Citi solutions. An award-winning financial professional, American Banker awarded Liu as one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Finance in 2020 and Barron’s recognized her as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance. She previously held positions at Vivienne Tam, Merrill Lynch, and BT Wolfensohn. Liu received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College.

 

6. Fred Wilson

Title: Co-Founder and Managing Partner

Fred Wilson is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Union Square Ventures (USV), a New York-based private equity and venture capital firm. Along with Brad Burnham (formerly of AT&T Ventures), Wilson founded USV in 2003 with a focus on early-stage ventures; today the firm manages over $1 billion in assets. Wilson boasts over 30 years of investment banking experience, including leading USV investments in several successful internet companies like Twitter, Tumblr, and Kickstarter, to name a few. Previously, he also founded Flatiron Partners, which invested in several dot-com businesses. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 

7. Steve Thogmartin
Company: The Boston Consulting Group
Title: Senior Partner, Managing Director

Steve Thogmartin is a Senior Partner and Managing Director with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world’s preeminent management consultancy companies. BCG provides advisory services and growth support to businesses across industries. In his current role, Thogmartin leads the firm’s North American Financial Institutions practice, as well as the same territory’s Regional Bank Transformation group. Before joining BCG, he was a business analyst at Deloitte & Touche Consulting. Thogmartin currently serves as a member on the Board of Trustees for the New York Hall of Science. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.

 

8. Jonathan Witter
Company: Sallie Mae
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Jonathan Witter is the Chief Executive Officer of Sallie Mae, an American consumer bank specializing in higher education lending. Originally a U.S.-government-sponsored enterprise, Sallie Mae primarily creates, services, and collects private student loans, and also offers college savings tools and programs. With nearly 30 years of executive experience, Witter leads the company in its efforts to promote students’ success and prosperity and help families fund their futures responsibly. Before joining Sallie Mae, he served as executive vice president and chief customer officer for Hilton Worldwide, as well as president of retail and direct banking with Capital One. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Vanderbilt University.

 

9. Kenneth Baronoff

Kenneth Baronoff is President of PJ Solomon Company, a multinational investment bank and financial services company. Based in New York City, PJ Solomon advises corporate clients through mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and more. With over 25 years of investment banking experience, Baronoff has advised notable clients such as Marvel Enterprises, Atari, and Viacom. Previously, he served as head of mergers and acquisitions at Barington Capital Group. He began his career practicing corporate law at Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his Juris Doctor degree from the New York University School of Law.

 

10. Vikram Bagaria

Vikram Bagaria is a Managing Director of Farallon Capital Management in the Singapore office. Based in San Francisco, Farallon Capital Management is an American capital management firm that manages funds on behalf of institutions and individuals with significant capital. Bagaria joined Farallon in 2003. Previously, Bagaria was a portfolio manager at Onyx Capital. He also held positions at Goldman Sachs and the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs in Singapore. Bagaria received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance and management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

 

11. Art Penn

Title: Founder and Managing Partner

Art Penn is the Founder and Managing Partner of PennantPark Investment Advisers, a business development company specializing in direct and mezzanine investments in middle-market enterprises. Founded in 2007, PennantPark manages nearly $4 billion dollars in assets across industries, including healthcare, transportation, business services, and telecommunications. Penn boasts over 30 years of experience in middle-market direct lending, leveraged finance, and private equity, and oversees the activities and operations of all such aspects of his firm. Previously, he served as president and chief operating officer for Apollo Investment Corporation, and as global head of leveraged finance at UBS. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

 

12. Matthieu Bucaille

Title: Chief Executive Officer

Matthieu Bucaille is the Chief Executive Officer of Lazard International, a multinational branch of Lazard Ltd., the global financial advisory and asset management firm. Lazard is the world’s largest independent investment bank, with primary offices in New York City, London, and Paris. Bucaille supports the company’s senior leadership, including the Financial Advisory, Sovereign Advisory, and Global Mergers and Acquisitions divisions. Previously, he served as chief financial officer of Lazard Ltd., and as vice chairman of Lazard Europe, based in France. Bucaille joined Lazard in 1987, becoming partner in 1998. He received his undergraduate degree in general business administration and management from ESSEC Business School in France.

 

13. Chris Manning

Title: Managing Partner, Chairman of Trilantic Energy Partners North America

Chris Manning is a Managing Partner at Trilantic Capital Partners, a New York City-based global private equity firm. Trilantic specializes in managed buyouts, recapitalizations, growth equity, and middle-market investments, with over $9 billion in assets under management. In his executive role, Manning focuses on the firm’s energy investments, serving as a member of several of its investment committees. He joined Trilantic when it was spun out from Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking (LBMB). Previously while at LBMB, Manning was head of the investment management division in its Asia-Pacific region. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

 

14. Daniel Zilberman

Title: Partner and Head of Special Situations

Dan Zilberman is a Partner at Warburg Pincus and is a member of the firm’s Executive Management Group. He currently leads Warburg Pincus' Special Situations activities globally. Zilberman joined Warburg Pincus in 2005 and currently sits on the Boards of Max (formerly Leumi Card) and McGill & Partners. Previously, Zilberman sat on the Boards of a number of flagship investments including Aeolus Re, Avaloq Group, and Network International, among others. He is a Senior Fellow and Lecturer at the Wharton School, where he teaches a class in the Finance Department. For his achievements, Zilberman was named as one of Europe’s Top 50 Most Influential People in Private Equity in 2018 and 2019 by the Financial News and was named as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Business in Israel by The Marker. He previously worked at Evercore Capital Partners and Lehman Brothers and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations from Tufts University.

 

15. Antoine Papiernik
Company: Sofinnova Partners
Title: Chairman, Managing Partner

Antoine Papiernik is Chairman and Managing Partner for Sofinnova Partners, a European venture capital firm specializing in life sciences. Based in Paris, Sofinnova has backed nearly 500 companies across the life sciences spectrum, from early-stage opportunities to late-stage or public enterprises. As a Managing Director, Papiernik has led investments in companies like Auris Medical, Mainstay Medical, and ProQR Therapeutics, often serving as an active member on their boards of directors. Before joining Sofinnova in 1997, he was an investment manager at CDC Enterprises Innovation, and a brand manager for Unilever. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from INSEEC.

 

16. Todd MacLean

Title: Co-Founder, Managing Partner

Todd MacLean is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Silversmith Capital Partners, a growth equity investment firm. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Silversmith allies with entrepreneurs to support and grow successful healthcare and technology companies, and currently manages over $2 billion in capital assets. In his role as a Managing Partner, MacLean works within the SaaS and information services sectors, driven by the power of data and the democratizing of access to technology. Before founding Silversmith with three colleagues, he was a managing director at Bain Capital and a partner at Accel Partners. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Dartmouth College.

 

17. Mark Garcia

Title: Managing Director

Mark Garcia is a Managing Director at Citi. Citigroup is a diversified financial services holding company that provides various financial products and services. Garcia joined Citi in November of 2017 where he also served as co-head of semiconductor and electronics investment banking. Throughout his career, Garcia has advised clients in the U.S., Asia, and Europe — namely a variety of large semiconductor and electronics firms like Advanced Micro Devices, ON Semiconductor, Infineon Technologies, and Silicon Labs. Previously he held positions at Barclays, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Deutsche Bank. Garcia received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Rutgers University.

 

18. Robert Coneybeer

Robert Coneybeer is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Shasta Ventures, an early-stage investment capital firm. Based in Silicon Valley, Shasta Ventures focuses its investments in enterprise and technology consumer startups, especially emerging platforms in robotics, virtual reality, and space technologies. Coneybeer provides support to enterprises such as Nest, Doctor On Demand, Fetch Robotics, and Starship Technologies. Previously, he was a general partner at New Enterprise Associates. Amish Jani is a Founder and Managing Director of FirstMark Capital. Based in New York, FirstMark Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm that partners with exceptional entrepreneurs. Jani founded the firm in 2008, and invests broadly across the cloud and Internet landscape, including SaaS applications, e-commerce, infrastructure, and more. 20. Robert Lewin

Robert Lewin is the Chief Financial Officer at KKR, a global alternative asset manager focusing on private equity, fixed income, and capital markets. 21. Henry Kressel

Dr. Henry Kressel served as a senior partner and managing director at Warburg Pincus for over thirty years where he focused on technology and communications investments. He has led investments in over thirty companies, many of which became publicly traded. He is currently a Special Limited Partner at the firm. Before joining Warburg Pincus in 1983, he was the vice president at RCA Laboratories responsible for the worldwide research and development of microelectronics, power electronics, and associated software. Dr. Kressel holds 31 U.S. patents covering various electronic and optoelectronic devices. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and is the founding president of the IEEE Photonics Society, has advised NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and the National Science Foundation, and has authored five books. Dr. Kressel received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yeshiva University and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.

 

22. Joe Horowitz

Title: Managing General Partner

Joe Horowitz is the Managing General Partner of Icon Ventures. Icon Ventures is a specialty venture capital firm focused on leading Series B or C financings. Horowitz founded Icon in 2003 and has overseen its growth, from $100 million in assets under management to $1.1 billion. At Icon, Horowitz has had 16 successful exits to date. He has been particularly active in the security space with early investments in FireEye (FEYE), Palo Alto Networks (PANW), and Proofpoint (PFPT), which today are publicly-traded companies with multibillion-dollar market valuations. He's previously held roles at Geocast Network Systems and Exxon Enterprises. Horowitz received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics, engineering, applied sciences from Columbia University.

 

23. Rob Collins

Title: Managing Partner, Head of North American Infrastructure

Rob Collins is the Managing Partner, Head of North American Infrastructure at 3i Group. Based in London, 3i is an international investment manager focused on mid-market private equity, infrastructure, and debt management. Collins joined the company in 2017 and he’s now a member of 3i’s Executive Committee. Prior to joining 3i, Collins was at Hastings Funds Management, founded the infrastructure M&A practice at Morgan Stanley, and was managing director at Greenhill. He began his career at Goldman Sachs after spending five years as an active-duty naval officer in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Program. Collins received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in chemical engineering from Vanderbilt University.

 

24. Natalie Halich

Natalie Halich is the Chief Investment Officer at International Finance Corporation (IFC). Based in Washington D.C., IFC is a private equity and venture capital subsidiary focused on the private sector in developing countries. Halich is also a member of IFC’s Venture Capital Investment Committee, approving technology investments in the logistics, transport, energy and storage, education, and healthcare sectors. Before IFC, Halich completed a pro-bono project with the John Hopkins University on combating human trafficking and held the position of Director, M&A, at Enron. 25. Mark Stone

Mark Stone is a Senior Managing Director at The Gores Group, a venture capital and private equity investment firm. Based in Beverly Hills, California, The Gores Group manages over $2 billion in assets, with portfolio companies in technology, media, entertainment, telecommunications, healthcare, and more. In his leadership role, Stone is a member of the firm’s investment committee and oversees alternative asset investments. Previously, he served as a chief executive for several technology ventures and spent formative years as a manager with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). 26. Cindy Black

Cindy Black is a Managing Director with TPG Capital, an American private equity investment firm. TPG focuses on leveraged buyout and growth capital, with portfolio companies in media, telecommunications, leisure and travel, technology, and healthcare, holding over $85 billion in capital assets. In her multifaceted role, Black oversees the firm’s global real estate lease portfolios, while also managing major events hosted by TPG. Previously, she was a managing director and regional chief operations officer with JP Morgan Chase, leading the technology, media, and telecom group. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and mathematics from Smith College.

 

27. Ryan Limaye

Ryan Limaye is the Co-Head of Global Technology Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs. Based in New York, Goldman Sachs is a multinational financial services firm providing securities and investment banking and management services. Since 2014, he has been the global head of Enterprise Technology and previously was the head of Communications Technology and the co- head of Telecom. Since joining the firm in 1994, Limaye has focused on financings and strategic assignments for leading companies in the technology and communications sectors. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Limaye was a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Limaye received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

 

28. Karin Fronczke
Company: Fidelity Investments
Title: Head of Global Private Equity Investments

Karin Fronczke is head of Global Private Equity Investments in the Equity division at Fidelity Investments. Fidelity Investments is a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing, and other financial products and services to institutions, financial intermediaries, and individuals. In her current role, she leads the private equity investments team and is responsible for investment sourcing, execution, and oversight for Fidelity Investments’ private portfolio companies around the world. Prior to joining Fidelity, Fronczke was at J.P. Morgan. She received her bachelor's degree in finance and international business at Georgetown University.

 

29. Brian Truesdale
Company: J.P. Morgan Chase
Title: Global Head of Software Investment Banking

Brian Truesdale is the Global Head of Software Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan Chase. J.P. Morgan Chase is a global financial services provider that offers investment banking, asset management, treasury, and other services. The company traces its roots back to 1799, and is a world-class franchise that focuses on investing for the long term. In his current role, Truesdale advises technology companies and private-equity firms. He has previously worked on deals such as SAP SE 's $8.3 billion acquisition of Concur Technologies Inc. Before joining J.P. Morgan Chase, Truesdale was at Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Hambrecht & Quist, and Bear Stearns. Truesdale received his bachelor's degree in economics and English from Hamilton College.

 

30. Usman Rabbani

Title: Managing Director, Global Head of Innovation and Technology

Usman Rabbani is a Managing Director and Global Head of Innovation and Technology for KKR, a global investment firm that specializes in alternative asset management. Founded in 1976 by veteran investors from Bear Stearns, KKR has completed some of the largest leveraged buyouts in history, including RJR Nabisco and TXU Energy. Rabbani oversees all aspects of technology investment and analysis, including creating value for portfolio clients through digital transformation and technology partner relations. Previously, he was a partner with McKinsey & Company, where he led McKinsey Digital, and an enterprise applications architect with Pfizer. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science and psychology from Yale University.

 

31. Robert Frost

Robert Frost is the Chief Executive Officer of Lazard Middle Market, the middle market advisory branch of Lazard Ltd., the global financial advisory and asset management firm. Founded in 1848, Lazard is the world’s largest independent investment bank, with primary offices in New York City, London, and Paris. Frost oversees Lazard’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and investment advisory services under $1 billion. Additionally, he serves as Co-Head of the Industrials Group, focused on clients in specialty industrial sectors. Previously, he served as managing director of M&A with Piper Jaffray & Co. and as an audit practice manager with Deloitte. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

 

32. Geoff McKay

Title: Managing Director, Head of Direct Private Equity North America

Geoff McKay is the Managing Director and Head of Direct Private Equity North America at CPP Investment Board. Based in Toronto, CPP Investment Board is a professional investment management organization that invests the assets of the Canada Pension Plan not currently needed to pay pension, disability, and survivor benefits. McKay joined the company in 2014 and focuses on making direct, long-term investments in private companies across North America. He is currently on the boards of Asurion and Informatica. Previously, he held positions at Vulcan Capital Management, Forstmann Little & Co., and Goldman Sachs. McKay received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Victoria.

 

33. Alan Bowser

Title: Co-Head of Americas Region and Chief Diversity Officer

Alan Bowser is the Co-Head of the Americas Region and Chief Diversity Officer at Bridgewater Associates. Based in Westport, Connecticut, Bridgewater manages approximately $120 billion in global investments for a wide array of institutional clients, including foreign governments and central banks. Bowser joined the company in 2011 as a Senior Client Advisor for eight years before being appointed as Co-Head of the Americas Region. 34. Torrey Browder

Torrey Browder is the Global Head of Healthcare M&A at Citi. Citigroup is a diversified financial services holding company that provides various financial products and services. Browder joined Citi in 2017 and currently oversees mergers and acquisitions within the healthcare sector. Previously, Browder was a partner and managing director at Goldman Sachs and notably worked on Pfizer’s $68 billion takeover of Wyeth in 2009. Before this, Browder was at Lehman Brothers Holdings, Oliver Wyman, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. David Coquillette is a Managing Director at New Mountain Capital, an alternative investment management company. Coquillette boasts over 30 years of finance and investment experience, including over a decade in his current position. Previously, he managed investment product marketing and client coverage at Oak Hill Advisors, and spent formative years as an investment manager with Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers.
